| All the people in this thread saying that noise cancellation doesn't matter are dumb and wrong. It absolutely matters when you're on a plane. Active noise cancellation is basically when the headphones feed back a waveform that cancels out some of the ambient noise into your ears. It works very, very well to dampen plane noise (propeller noise) and in fact the inventor was sitting ona plane when he thought of the idea. It also is good at blocking out people talking.
Of course, if you want these headphones "for travel" like you said, you also should get closed-ear, over-the-ear headphones, not earbuds or open headphones. The big puffy ones that have lots of sound insulation. This will help with lower frequency sounds that active noise cancellation isn't good at muffling. If, on the other hand, you want headphones for sitting in your easy chair and listening to Mozart, you should get over-the-ear, open Sennheisers. They will give the best sound quality. They aren't good at muffling ambient noise, but you don't live in a noisy shithole, do you? Do you? |
