So I though this was just a toy, and it kind of is, but I would like to introduce you to the USB automation dongle called the blink(1).

You can trigger it to blink different colors and patterns based on ifttt.com recipes or scripts you write yourself. I just put one together to blink purple and yellow when there is a new Caltrops post. That's right, when you post on Caltrops, I will now get a light on my laptop at home. But I've got it doing other things like blinking white when I get gmail or letting me know when the Buffalo Sabres win.... well actually, that's hypothetical. I assume that one works. :/
When the weather changes to below freezing it does a pattern. I may take one into work if I can get it working to blink when there's a pull request on Github for me.
