I JUST tested your resize-window complaint on the OSX browser I'm reading this on and flipped over to outlook and they BOTH not only allow me to resize from all four corners but ALSO changes the mouse pointer to let you know you can do this. Maybe...maybe just give up on trying to learn new things, go fire up Midnight Commander, and play around with shuffling your TSRs? Time has marched on, and left you tired and panting to catch up.
