Every texture, every audio file, every line of text, even the grammatically correct one. All re-downloaded every time somebody makes a pull request, boom, it all has to be re-downloaded to client PCs. That's the real reason you need an always-on connection. It's what Braben has asked for / demanded at his knighting. In a recent interview he said that if the Speccy had won and not the PC he wouldn't do it this way, but fuck IBM and fuck art.
