Some people argue that most modern 3D action games are the result of arcade brawlers and/or fighting games from the 90's. I disagree! The heavy focus on dodging, counterattacking, and having secrets litter a mostly linear path are ALL Mega Man X concepts.
Most modern 3D actions games have you:
-Collect new weapons and powerups from dead bosses
-Find life power ups hidden all over the place, sometimes requiring boss abilities to reach them
-Do a LOT of puzzle platforming and jumping, even if it's mostly on rails
-Use weak, fast attacks or slow, strong attacks
-Use finesse to dodge everything instead of tanking hits and hoping to get a life powerup later
Just about the ONLY parallel I can see between arcade brawlers is that you're fighting hordes of enemies in flat arenas. |
