The actual, honest-to-god, not for us alpha-buying-overpaying-idiots is out. Now it only costs $75! But be warned, it has some SERIOUS, serious problems:
1. Space stations still disappear from time to time. Though the fix log does say "crash fixed when station disappears". So they still disappear, but your PC doesn't require a hard-reboot as a result. Baby steps!
2. It still can can over a minute to come out of supercruise. Fortunately, the cockpit animation has been improved, so you can just stare at your space self getting bored and fidgety while you wait for the program to, you know, slow down you down to zero miles an hour.
OTHER THAN THAT:
Look. I've been prone to hyperbole in the past, but if you like space sims, there-- there's nothing close to this. I can't even believe it exists, it's so good. There's no story. There's no cartoon aliens. There's no bullshit.
There's just the closest thing any of us will come in our lifetimes to feeling like a rogue space trader/pirate/explorer/whatever.
A decent HOTAS joystick and TrackIR are highly recommended. It's still great even if you have anything better than, say, a trackball. But with those two items, it becomes a transcendent experience.
It's just unbelievably great. I could be wrong, but I'm not.
