| The writing was bad but I was expecting bad writing.
What I didn't expect was for it to be so dreary and slow. Monsters has a deliberate pace that worked great because it's a message movie that plays out like a documentary. Godzilla is supposed to be an action/disaster movie, though, and when you FINALLY get to the monster part, it's like an Enya video where the visuals are Kaiju Big Battel in slow motion. The score was especially underwhelming, no pulse at all. A lot of the elements were there, I think it was just really poorly edited. And directed. "Your monorail is driving into the mouth of a monster!" should be a pretty exciting time but not in this case. FoK Verdict: better than Pacific Rim but I still don't want to see it again, and I've seen Cloverfield four times now. |
