| 1. Jettison all the pointless sideplot crap. The "drifting" aspect was meaningless and ate up too much time, and the "wacky" scientists took up over a half hour all to deliver an unnecessary plot point. A big, dumb robot punching movie should not be 132 minutes long.
2. If you have to have plot, why the christ didn't you go with the awesome opening plot? They introduce the early war where pilots are rock stars and the monsters are a big merchandising deal as opposed to a world threat. Instead we the late war where everyone sits around moping about dead brothers and terminal brain cancer. You already have stupid action, why not go with the stupidly fun plot instead of boilerplate serious crap? 3. Two daylight fights are shown that last for 5 seconds. The rest of the fights take place at night where too much of the action is obscured by darkness, water, and lightning flash. Those two 5 second daylight fights are more exciting than all of the long night fights put together. Cut the run time, all daylight fights, go all in on the stupid fun. |
