You know that feeling of apprehension when someone with terrible taste ropes you into something they insist you'll love? But you know it'll be terrible? Like how when someone your parents' age heard you were "into games" so they got excited about showing you Candy Crush?
When I saw the ads for "Candy Crush" it took me on the order of 5 seconds to realize it was a clear and obvious clone of "Bejeweled" and the only people who wouldn't know this was anyone who never saw nor played Bejeweled.

So clearly, if it was that obvious to you, that nobody who thought The Illusionist was a great movie ever saw The Usual Suspects, or they'd recognize Illusionist is a clear and obvious clone of Suspects.

That's not to denigrate clear and obvious clones; they can be very entertaining if they are done right. West Side Story is a clear and obvious clone of Romeo and Juliette but it doesn't stop the former from being entertaining even if its story is based on one originally written by Wm. Shakespeare that's 400 years old. But you have to be a very good writer to get away with it. Whoever wrote West Side Story is a good writer. Whoever wrote The Illusionist is not.
