My dad got us a NES a few years after the NES was released. He really did want something to play sports games on. Unfortunately, the shitty programming of a lot of early NES games turned him off to video games forever. (In order to get all the players on the screen they would use that refresh trick where they paint the players on different cycles, but they couldn't do it fast enough so there would be flicker. I also think that some of the people making these games depicted what character you controlled by blinking that character, but my memory is foggy.)
Everyone else had an NES and they all loved The Legend of Zelda. To me, it seemed like a Gauntlet ripoff. I never remotely saw the appeal. Couple that with how brainwashed and fucking annoying Zelda fans are (there are too many grown-ups that actually think the "Ocarina of Time" game is the best game ever made -- they are old enough to drive and squeeze tits and everything) and it is something I have never gotten into and will never get into. I am letting go of the aspects of this dumb franchise that evoke Disney imagery, because there's a certain shit brigade on the Internet that loves Disney movies and will virulently defend them as proper entertainment for adults.
Christ, I need to get some coffee or watch that video of Lydia's natural accent or something. Re-reading this I come off like an asshole.
ONE THING I LIKE ABOUT THIS THREAD: We don't have any "problem solvers" who are going to argue FOR the games in question and try to get the poster to play it after all, forcing the poster to either politely say, "Huh. I'll check it out!" or say, "Fuck off."
