Personally, I've failed to get to the first checkpoint three times, and the controls seem terribly spastic. Maybe I just need to start channeling my 1991 self, and it'll come back to me. Not having save is bad. I'm now with ICJ on this, after lack of save being supremely irritating in the last two games I've purchased.
