Tower defense is another genre I don't get. How did anyone get motivated to play the second tower defense game of their lives? And what about the genre causes all these people to try to make their mark in it?

When listening to an online lecture or podcast, my videogame-addled brain requires stimulation for the uninvolved parts of my brain, lest my attention wander. Freecell and Mahjong Titans get old very quickly. Tower defense I've found to be the perfect combination of involving enough to entertain, but not so complicated that I lose track of the speech I'm listening to. Although this may have the side-effect of me not being annoyed by June Diane Raphael.
