| In a question on Yahoo Answers, a girl asks why her live-in boyfriend of 3 years doesn't want to get married. I gave a number of answers, among them that people see their own parents got divorced, they feel they can't afford it, they may think the only really good reason to get married is so their kids aren't bastards (although with the way some people don't keep their kids properly civilized, a lot of kids are still holy terror bastards even though their parents were married before they were born and maybe even before they were conceived!)
But, if you're married, I'd like to hear your reasons. No comments from me, no criticism and you can always use a different fake handle. But do me one favor, if you do answer, give an honest answer as to why; I'd like real data, not fake information or responses from people (like myself) who weren't married. Or, if you weren't married and want to speak about what you saw in your own (presumably) married parents, that's fine; but mention that's what you're referring to. I'd like "real-life" answers rather than flights of fancy, if anyone cares to do so. So, here's the question, why do people make the jump, take the plunge, cross the chasm, take their relationship to the next level, "make an honest woman" out of their girlfriend, why do (or more specifically, why did you) get married? |
