If you remake a horror franchise, you have a lot of expectations to work with; this movie meets those expectations like it's filling out an invoice.
They basically slapped a Platinum Dunes horror template on some franchise tropes with minimal care or discretion. I thought it was really shitty. And since they were trying to do everything straight it's the first Evil Dead movie that has the problem of trying to avoid being unintentionally funny, which here amounts to trying not to be too creative. |
