It seems the problem is that some folks are really eager to implicate their real life identities in the vapid garbage they get up to on the internet. When the veil legitimately gets pierced, e.g. when some shiftless pedophile disagrees with you online and retaliates by tracking down your sister irl and uses facets of her actual identity as raw material in sex slaying wank fantasies, then I agree with the need to involve real authorities, because someone like that should be locked in a concrete box for everyone's safety. But elevating drive-by jabs by random droolers to the level of tangible death threats that evince real groundwork and an underlying pathology seems to be laying it on a little thick.
