Now enemies just respawn constantly. I can't quite remember in Yakuza 1 or 2 (which an HD version of is coming out soon as well), but I think eventually you'd run out of people to fight in any chapter. This is nice because it gives you more of a feeling of a game when you're running around to collect locker keys, rather than a completely peaceful collection experience. A big part of why they did this is because there isn't a loading transition into combat anymore, which looks great. The camera will just raise over Kazuma's shoulders and people will run around to form a ring dynamically, it looks great.
It's basically the same game as Yakuza 1 and Yakuza 2, the story is relatively interesting with an OK "I'm trying to go straight" plot. I'm not sure if there really was much of one in Yakuza 2, he just sort of left Tokyo, right? However the host clubs were CUT, which is annoying to me. The game is so fucking Japanese already anyone playing it is going to be fine with that shit. You can find the hostesses just standing around Burger Joints and and Gelato Shops (not a joke) waiting to ask you on a date, so the content isn't lost.
There are some infuriating parts though, like the chasing/running minigame. I'll probably do a proper review since I need something for my blog and I'll cross post it to the site. Remember we've got Yakuza 3, Yakuza 4, Yakuza Zombies, and Yakuza 5(not yet translated) all that Yakuza is probably worth 300 dollars. It might be worth it to wait on a PS4 at this point. I only bought the PS3 because I got it for cheap on black Friday and my 360 had still broke, and I wasn't going to buy all the JTAG horseshit to repair it. |
