Windows 7 SATA drive oddness on power failure by Ice Cream Jonsey 07/27/2012, 9:55pm PDT
So, we lose power in this shitty suburb once a month. My XP machine recovers from it with no problem.

Windows 7, Christ, the fucking thing blue screens for an hour every time we lose power. It's so fucking maddening.

Power died for about ten seconds tonight, and the behavior I am seeing with my SATA drive is bizarre.

- If I restart and go into the Safe mode with command prompt, I can see and access everything.
- If I restart and go into normal Windows 7, the machine locks up when I try to do anything with a folder, or click on the Start button.

Any idea on what could cause that?

I have two partitions on the SATA drive, E: and F:. I did a chkdisk /f on both while in Safe Mode with a Command Prompt and there were no problems.
