Where I live, Canada, you can sometimes find two-litre bottles of store-brand soda for as little as seventy-five cents each. But that's slightly deceptive, because by the time you add the six-cent non-refundable recycling fee and twelve percent sales tax, you're back to looking at ninety-one cents per bottle. It would be enough to make me furious if all my money didn't come directly from the government in the first place. The least they could do is mandate that stores print the final, after-tax price right on the tags, like they do with VAT in the UK. |
