short rap sheet will do that (leper's colony has always been my favorite part of that site)

Yeah. To clarify, I meant that having a rule about telling mods what terrible fucking jobs they are doing is the antithesis of good conversation. I mean, think of those people in your life that are too sensitive to ever be real with. You keep them at arm's distance and consider it a success if you have a conversation with them and they don't lose their goddamn minds over something dumb. That's SA.
That would be the whole site at that point, people just bitching about how shitty the moderation is. I think there's a critical mass where it just doesn't work anymore, in busy forums they already probate people by how many times a post is reported, and the shitbirds are always more willing to report than the people with any honor or dignity. (iirc, posting with honor includes not reporting people)
Now, a system where he empowers the worst posters and gets $10 from those who re-register? That's brilliant. So I can see why it makes sense in his mind. If he has a populace dumb enough to keep giving him money, why wouldn't you make it so they were getting banned constantly?
that's the running gag in fyad, of course. lowtax needs a new car/dishwasher/tun of mangosteen delivered to fucking wherever, iowa so the hammer comes down
Heh. But how it should work is that someone is acting like a bitch in a thread, and it gets handled in that thread.
handled by who in the thread though? There's been a consistent problem with even small-scale anarchism over the course of history, whether it was communes in the 1800s or unmoderated forums now, the people in the group who talk the loudest get their way, whether it's good for everyone or not. whoever has an interest in keeping things the same suddenly finds it within themselves to get real pushy. that's the material result of every group trying to go without hierarchy ever: "rule by the pushy." those people uphold a process that gets them the results they want, and they don't care about anything but those results, because that 'lack of process' is a crock of shit. think about what would happen in sa's forums if that was applied. TFR and GiP would literally police themselves into a klan rally. ADTRW would be all child cartoon porn all the time because there's no shaming those people out of their problem. D&D would be a neoliberal hellscape where there was no right or wrong so people blathered and cited forever and no one ever learned anything...well I guess moderation didn't prevent that exactly.
The Helldump threads I remember seeing had some no-life nobody looking up social security numbers or whatever. Perhaps they weren't all that way, but man... taking a goddamn internet grudge to a different thread is pathetic. (But in a system where you can't lay into people, like on SA, of course that's exactly what's going to happen.)
there were some real internet detectives in there...not in a good way
It is delightfully predictable over there. Perhaps that is the appeal to a certain kind of poster over there that hasn't left yet.
yeah for guys who wanna troll the shit out of people it helps if they make the same posts every day
That being said, I'm trying to get word on whether or not the Saints can appeal this nonsense. I mean, Payton was meant to receive $7 million this year. The guy probably has a mortgage or whatever. I know he won't ever need to pay for a drink again in the city, but you can't just take a guy's salary for an entire year when he lacks the ability to enter the free market because it's a congress-approved exemption for the closed shop.
I don't see this happening. even if he had a leg to stand on for restraint of trade in court there wouldn't even be a hearing before next year, and by then he'd be blackballed altogether. I bet that year long suspension is a compromise between goodell and the owner, just to dump it all on the coaches and players (vilma at least is gonna get it). normally a coach taking a year off is going to be on ESPN but that might not be workable in this situation |
