It gets better because the themes appeal more to adults than they do to kids. I did not like this movie when I was growing up, too much emphasis on singing, bad cg (yes even for then, the dancing forks), it just seemed really hopped up and oblivious to the perspective of children, a trademark of most Disney animation in the 90s.

The beer hall scene was great but it was like they threw it in to remind you what they were capable of and what you where missing.

I think if Disney were alive he might have been a little disgusted by it, honestly.
