It's gun nuts who fail to realize that in a violent society with armed criminals, if the public is disarmed the criminals have the advantage.
Where are the criminals getting their guns? Are they smuggling them across the borders from Canada and Mexico, possibly in exchange for American-grown grass and cocaine? If that's the case, it would make more sense to crack down on drugs than guns.
It's the other way around; Mexico and Canada have stiff rules on gun posession, the usual trade is either American Cash or American Guns for foreign grass and coke. Guns are easy to get here, (we do have a Second Amendment guaranteeing individuals the right to armaments), unlike Mexico and Canada where they have severe gun restrictions and very few gun stores. Mexico City has 18 million people, and exactly one licensed gun store. Maryland has strict rules that don't even allow open carry without a permit, (if you're buying a gun to take home or going to a range you have to transport it in a case) and yet one list I found on the Internet shows six gun stores within 20 miles of my location in Prince George's County, either this county or neighboring Montgomery County. This isn't even counting pawn shops that routinely buy and sell guns.
