The part that really gets to me is that a few years ago I would have just instantly agreed with anyone who told me I was a clueless bumbling wannabe who was smart enough to disappoint people but not smart enough to make any choices for myself. I would have just thought you were right because you were telling me I was wrong, and who would ever do that unless I was actually wrong?!?!?!??! 
Am I not a clueless bumbling wannabe who for whatever cruel reason was endowed with a superhuman intelligence and no rudder?! My god I should listen to this nice man trying to set me on the right path! When I figured out other people were not, in fact, disinterested and infallible observers, it was jarring. 
So now I understand that folks have agendas while lacking psychic x-ray vision. I've made an awkward choice that I would nevertheless like to share with Caltrops because Caltrops is the group of people I have known the longest. The upshot of all this was that I solicited y'alls opinions, and y'all gave them to me. Thanks. There was a lot to think about in there. I was not asking to be told what I should do so that I could immediately go do it. We're all done with that deal. I think just about everyone understood that except you. 
The weirdest part is that you stopped talking about career choices and compatibility thereof pretty much immediately, and doubled down on your chosen line of interrogation, which was "what does zsensy think religion is, why she doesn't have it, and why she's consequently delusional/lying." If your point was to mock, you failed; it was never funny and won't be funny no matter how much you embroider it with video clips. If it was to persuade, why were you an insulting, quibbling, point-missing dick? Mostly it looked like you were blowing off a tremendous amount of steam and I happened to stumble into your line of fire. Which okay that's fine, I've tanked much worse, but of all people here I honestly thought you'd be an ally. Here I am prepared to reclaim religious life from the shouty right, and to strip it from its Levitical shackles, and make it once again a locus of community activity completely in tune with scientific and social progress, and you're so busy *FUCKING AIRHORN* that you won't even give the idea any play. I was stung, not the least because it was a missed opportunity for both of us. The more stung as I became more convinced of the necessity of this change. But now I lump you in with the Damaged By Organized Religion people and I wish to lay my gentle hand upon your airhorn. 
Good news! I don't hold any of your trash against you. Bad news: it doesn't matter at fucking all to me what you believe religion to be. We'll talk about the fruits when it's time, but never again about the definitions. Your bullshit pissed me off so much that I volunteered to teach Sunday School, so troll successful I guess. The skeptical rhetoric of 5th graders is both more poignant and more compelling that yours. Also, hysterical comparisons of Caltrops to QC are not hysterical in the way that you would like them to be. |
