Because the moderator has explicitly locked threads, banned people for discussing aspects of bans he finds unpleasant, often without warning (see: Hurt Locker thread most recently where 11 people were banned in the immediate wake of the event for being critical of his actions).

The specifics of any ban are between me and the person who had the account, but suffice to say it's always for reasons laid out in the rules, and it almost always follows some long-term problem or exchange of PMs or emails to try to resolve the situation.

This is provably untrue, as Caltrops has borne witness to in the past. Mostly, what this serves to do is allow Tom and his sycophants to pretend that something awful has happened behind the scenes when in fact it is merely something other than immediately submissive behavior.

However, how the forum is moderated is absolutely something worth talking about. This is a mostly self-policing forum. I step in when there are recurring or egregious problems. And despite silly assertions like Charles', no one has ever had an account closed because I disagreed with him or her. I disagree with plenty of people on this forum, often, and sometimes in less than pleasant terms. If that was the criteria for closing the forum, this would be a small community indeed.

Again, simply untrue. People are banned for disagreeing with Tom. This is a fact. It's why the Hurt Locker, the banning thread, and numerous others are locked. He can't help himself.

The forum is self-policing in the sense that people will not be banned for trolling generally, but will be banned for trolling offensive to Tom specifically or one of his chosen white knightees. This also applies for disagreeing generally or responding in kind. Essentially, it's the worst of moderated and unmoderated forums brought together in a perfect storm of idiots running amok.

Anyway, thanks for dropping in, Charles. Lots of us do miss you. That's not snark, by the way. But this is: good thing you archived a copy of your post! Pretty sneaky!

Yeah good thing. This is the opening salvo, where he makes light of people trying to talk to him or about his forum like adults. Should this be challenged, it will become gradually more unpleasant in tone until a response can be deemed ban-worthy. As always, the only way to win is not to play.
