Two-thirds of his total intake came from junk food. He also took a multivitamin pill and drank a protein shake daily. And he ate vegetables, typically a can of green beans or three to four celery stalks.
One-third of 1800 calories is still 600 calories. If you're having trouble visualizing 600 calories worth of protein and vegetables, picture a full pound of drained tuna meat and another full pound of carrots to go with it. After that, the 1200 calories worth of junk food he consumed (equivalent to about a half-pound of M&M's) would have just been a fun treat. For all we know, he could have been eating Twinkies long before he even started the diet! |
