Ninjas and Lancers are both pretty broken. Knights are alright early on because they can equip heavy weapons and armor, but abandon them for higher-up classes as soon as they become available. Black/White/Time Mages are all incredibly useful (especially once you get Calculators), as are Summoners. Geomancers and Mediators are terrible. Oracles are alright. One thing the game will never tell you about Oracles is that they use their magic power for physical attacks instead of their physical power, and that can make them downright strong in close combat. Samurai are mediocre as well. Bards and Dancers are basically worthless except for one JP-gaining trick (spoiler, see below.) Squires do get some pretty good abilities later on in the game but it's not worth it to stick with that class long enough to get them. Thieves and Archers can be safely skipped, unless you want some of the best equipment in the game, in which case you're going to have to steal it from bosses.

Songs and dances trigger every so often at constant speed regardless of your character's speed, so they are good sources for JP for your abysmally slow Calculators.
