What's a good party mix to start the game
Squires ^_^
Actually, I remember knights being decent early fighters, but only in the short term. Try to change out of them as soon as possible as I remember all their abilities sucking (unless you can get extremely lucky and break a tough enemy's weapon). I also remember archers being pretty useless. The lower level charge attacks won't make much of a difference, and by the time you get the higher ones people will move too fast and will never stay in the same spot.
I remember ninjas sucking except for their ability to wield two weapons at once. So go for that then switch if you want.
And should I just dump my starting guys for the new ones I get down the road?
If you ditch your customized, class changeable characters and go with NPC's that you pick up, you're missing the entire point of the game. That said, the only good NPC's in the entire game that I can remember were that dark knight you're with at the beginning, Arias (princess' bodyguard), some green robe knight chick very late int he game (excellent against human enemies, not so otherwise), and the challenge-destroying Orlandu. There's also a demon you can get into your party for beating the secret dungeon that can inflict every status ailment on people, so that's pretty decent.
If one of your characters permanently dies in battle, reset. You will never, ever get a new replacement squire up to the same point.
When I said those are the only useful NPC's, I meant it. The rest suck. Rafa and Malak are less than useless and are perhaps the worst friendly NPC's in gaming history. |
