In terms of the overall plot arc, I agree that Mass Effect is good for a video game. In terms of the script, however, I think the "Oh Commander Shepard, not only are you brave and strong but you are also so important" shit is actually worse than the cursory/nonexistent scripting (in the dialog sense) that exists in most games. Also, I think it's worth noting that this kind of stuff is always the worst in games to which Bioware gives flagship status (which is to say, in the NWN expansions and Jade Empire you can avoid the stroke-fantasy dialog if you choose the right companions, whereas w/ ME, DA:O and KOTOR it's totally inevitable.) |
