Yeah. Supposedly the game's in widescreen because it gives you a wider field of vision, although I expect the usual "it makes it look like a MOOOOOVIE" rationale applies as well.
Ok, I see our difference. You're calling "over the shoulder" camera, "3rd person" view, but any game in which you can see your character is a 3rd person camera.
Beside that point, "simulate" periperal vision is a terrible description, and saying that peripheral vision is the entire point of 3rd person camera is a narrow view (HA HA!), which you just began to see another side of in your reply post. Simulating peripheral vision is Gran Turismo's 3-TV feature. I'd say "seeing your character" would be the number 1 reason a game chooses 3rd person view, and not just for the cinematic aspect. |
