None of these relationships would work in real life and this comic isn't remotely realistic (the idea that an indie rock hipster could ever function in the real world is equally absurd).


Though I haven't visited Portland yet so that could still win.

95% of the neighborhood is made up of lily white 20 something hipsters (80% Bono glasses), and no they weren't at all functional. Every one I knew worked at either a cafe or a thrift clothing store (4-5 of my last roommates worked at the same thrift store)...for about 15 hours a week because anything more would CONSTRAIN their CREATIVITY of making shitty abstract works of art with colored straws and troll dolls. Daddy the lawyer would cover the rest so they could hop to Europe or Puerto Rico every other month.

One of my roommates got super stoned and started freaking out, running around with a trash bag saying she had to get rid of everything corporate and tried to throw everything out.

I moved out as soon as I could. The girl taking over my room also worked at the same thrift store. She showed up with 5 tons of broken furniture she had picked up from curbs on her way over. Some of it was so far gone I couldn't even tell what it used to be, nothing but driftwood. She swore she could fix it up as part of a project. Her solution for every item seemed to be just throwing a tapestry over it.

One roommate lived with her pussy emo indie boyfriend, chronically unemployed and would just sit around all day tying up the apartment internet connection downloading gigs of music (and smoking hand rolled cigarettes). It took us two weeks to get internet at all since it had been left up to him to call the cable company and let the technician in, since he wasn't busy with a goddamn thing and all. A week later still no technician and he finally claimed that he tried calling but they (comcast) needed a credit card number to open an account (bullshit) and he didn't have one so his girlfriend gave him hers (paid for by daddy). A week later he still hadn't called so I just set it up myself. After that his excuse for not doing anything was that he was working on his paintings, which were hung up all over the house and his girlfriend kept trying to get him to send to galleries but he always claimed no one would "get" his work.
