It sounds like there's all kinds of character development shit that I don't EVEN want to know about in this show. If I wanted to learn somebody's life story I'd read a book, but I don't, so I don't (respectively). (If you can use the word 'respectively' like that? WHATEVER, TOLSTOY)

I want to see that justice is being done out there in TV Land and I want to see it done with the absolute minimum of fuss, by professionals. The only justifications for a story arc that lasts more than one episode is are:

  • a joke that is set up in one episode that pays off in another episode

  • something to do with a smoke monster.


Let me pose a question: would X-Files have been better if it were only episodes that were outside the overarching alien conspiracy plotline? (YES)


After you watch season one of the Wire, you'll want this post, but especially the post detailing all the other policey dreck you previously consumed deleted. And best of all, I think there will be a sufficiently strong populist movement to actually get that done since people do in fact like you.
