The game has some fairly basic rules for how the different parts operate. The idea is supposed to be that you encounter a variety of different races and problems and then are able to break them to the degree your creativity allows. There is some crap to wade through between that and the operation of your masterpiece in events, but there's a lot to like about the game even for someone like me who generally puts racing vehicles in games fairly low on the list of things I do for fun. Something about the ability to build your own.

Banjo Kazooie does a terrible job of explaining and presenting itself, so I can see not wanting to get over that. Also, the checkpoint system is actually built to accommodate the main idea of the game, which is going back to your design and experimenting with solutions for the problems you encountered, which was a big plus.
