That and the scarcity of running up the gut early on were the only 'what?' moments for me. I'd wager that the Colts did a LOT of onside prevent drills after that crazy game against the Titans.
This is what I like about Jeff Fisher: he had nothing to play for and was probably slightly depressed that he wouldn't be able to single-handedly ruin American television, if not the very concept of "vision," for a week with one of his crazy attempts at a playoff beard because he was going nowhere near the post-season. So instead -- fully realizing that the NFL is a zero-sum game -- he goes out and tries a bunch of onside kickoffs against the Colts and RUINS IT FOR EVERYBODY who was thinking of trying the same thing against them in the playoffs.
That's a coach right there. If he ever got fired from the Titans and I came into a lot of money I'd hire him to be my father. He's got enough confidence in himself that he's not going to give up and give up and play badly for draft picks because he knows there's no real difference between him selecting at 6 or at 10 because, hey, his organization is simply better than the ones normally down there. And he's right. He wants to beat the Colts and win more games, he thought he'd give the onside kick thing a try and that was that. Now Indy has practiced that to death and it would be an impossible tactic to continually use in the playoffs and everyone's got Fisher to thank for that. If I were a fan of the Titans I would hope that my team dragged everyone else down if at all possible and that's what he did. Best coach not in the playoffs.
ICJ Jeff Fisher can coach my team any day. That Colts game was the gutsiest gameplan I have seen in years, maybe ever. This guy called the Music City Miracle. This guy, after one of his players kicked an opposing player in the head, ran onto the field and ejected the player himself. Anyone whining about him taking away that gambit against the Colts is retarded - nobody has the balls to do it. Except Mike Martz, but he thnks so much of his offense, he wouldn't anyway.
I'm totally digging Belichek's move to keep Foxboro un-tarped and force mushball come Sunday, but I don't know if it wil be enough. |
