I've been PC shopping the last couple of months by Ray of Light 03/29/2009, 8:10pm PDT That CPU is ridiculously good value for the money. The motherboard, too, though for $15 more MSI X58 Platinum has 6 memory slots and a couple extra doodads. Memory - OCZ has a shitty reputation. Corsair and Kingston are good. Memory is so cheap that I would buy as many 2GB parts as it will hold (and worry about how to use it later). Video - ATI Radeon 4870 HD appears to be the thing to buy, both in FPS/$ and actual framerate terms. Cases - Antec Sonata III, $120, 500W PSU, eSATA port on the front, nice drive cages mounted on grommets. I have one and would buy another.
