New development (and gaming I guess) workstation by E. L. Koba 03/29/2009, 7:28pm PDT So I'm putting together a new development workstation. Originally I was just going to build a cheap box with dual monitors that was fine for coding, but I realized I'll now be needing to run SQL Server, Sharepoint, and that other crap, and probably some virtual machines, so I can debug properly. So I started over with a beefier machine. Then, figured that since it'll be a decent computer I might as well slap in strong video card and get a good gaming computer out of it. Here's what I got so far: GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 (this in the assumption that "triple-channel" is like the old dual channel and you'll get the best performance with 3 of the same) Video card - I've gotten too lazy to do the research on. Seriously - could they just come up with some sort of consistent numbering system? Dual monitor out is a must (both DVI would be nice). Cases - is Antec still any good? I'll probably get one of those.
