Re: Annoying/cheap weapons/enemies

Really, the too seconds of sitting on the couch killed you?
When you put it like that (well, not precisely like that, but if you didn't fuck up on the homonyms) it doesn't sound so bad. In fact, in a vacuum, having to place those two little shits sit on a tiny loveseat in order to let me access the save menu sounds positively charming. But that's not what happened. We didn't have two decades of functional save-anywhere in video games and then see Ico's cutesy take on it. Saving your progress in a video game became an ever-more annoying process deigned acceptable by gamers that wore their lack of willpower as some sort of mail-in Activision badge ("saving anywhere destroys tension! I can't help myself from saving every two seconds!!") and lazy, incompetent developers and designers that couldn't understand the concept of saving state, the science of which is so difficult to grasp that every single 12-year old that's made a NES emulator has included it in their first two or three releases. That being said, it wasn't a quick two seconds to get Ico and his gal to sit on the couch, it was pointless nonsense in the cooldown stage of what, by definition, was probably an awesome experience that the game gave us moments earlier - especially since any reasonable game should simply let me hit fucking "start" to access the save menu. Ico is otherwise one of the best games ever made, and I never understood why the studio went through all the trouble of giving us the first great game in history that did not need or require a GUI, a game where the goal of complete immersion was obviously never far away from the thoughts of anyone who worked on it... where we'd experience a swordfight against shadow monsters, hacking away at them to save our GHOST GIRLFRIEND... and then go through an utterly pointless mini-game of NPC squeezing to get those two lovebirds on the couch. It went totally contrary to everything they were trying to do in Ico.
And you're single...?
Not when I was playing Ico, no. But I stole my take on save systems from her, and I'm just regurgitating them here on Caltrops - I can't stand being able to save whenever I want; if Levelord designed his shit better, I wouldn't need to. the dark and gritty...Ice Cream Jonsey!
