"The very particular and very American conditions..." smell like bullshit to me.

You're just completely insane. You're more autistic than Creexul. You seriously just proposed that all the people who are not interested in power can band together, decide on one most important mission, and then go after the guys with power, nukes, and impenitent souls. You called this very same idea insane when RoL was positing it as People With Handguns versus Armed SWAT Teams.
Farmers in ancient china or wherever were not permitted to own swords. So they devised the deadliest form of combat known to man: The Martial Arts. I figure twenty, twenty-five years between the time we launch our nukes into the sun like Superman IV and someone starts throwing chi missiles like Super Saiyan Trunks off Dragon Ball Z *strokes chin* Or maybe I see disarming everyone else as being secondary to disarming ourselves; and that when it does happen, it will be because of their own enlightened self-interest rather than some kind of unarmed Omaha Beach.
Meanwhile, you just can't even cope with the idea that some of these same people could seriously be that different from you. Worse, people will have goals and desires which not only run contrary to your preferences, they run contrary to your self-interest - this concept isn't even on your map. It's part of the reason we get into having governments in the first place.
You've got me, I do think the majority of human interests are more-or-less compatible. We're always going to have motherfuckers trying to ice skate uphill, but there's probably a better way of dealing with them than pointing guns at each other.
You're seriously like a high school kid who's all "but... if everyone is NICE to each other, we wouldn't need governments at all!" But that kid didn't write his mom a check for making his sammiches in the AM, and he's not paying rent.
I don't pay my rent, the tax payers do. How does that fit into your paradigm?
