Courageous Tale of Speechwriting
So John McCain gave a speech at the New School, whatever college that is, and he was heckled and the valedictorian used her speech to refute McCain's politics. The courageous tale of how the graduate student's subversive(.doc) speech was crafted, in her own words, and how she was able to use John McCain's words against him, soil his crown, and end war. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jean-rohe/why-i-spoke-up_b_21358.html It starts off slow, with Jean Rohe wanting to simply teach the world to sing while earning a two degrees, but things quickly turn serious for double-degree Jean and the country. By the end she offers John McCain a small apology for destroying him (he curiously says, nay, MUMBLES that it's alright, but Jean knows that filthy bastard's true feelings) and her two degrees are only mentioned one more time. ToutSuite: Finally, Senator Mc Cain will tell us that we, those of us who are Americans, "have nothing to fear from each other." I agree strongly with this, but I take it one step further. We have nothing to fear from anyone on this living planet." ToutSuite: yeah, what are they gonna do, fly planes into our buildings? Or build nuclear bombs? ToutSuite: psh, that's not scary! Sanitario666: We can speak truth to power Sanitario666: What does that mean? ToutSuite: that's the new catchphrase Sanitario666: You can tell authority figures the truth? ToutSuite: any time you call Bush a liar or whatever, you're speaking truth to power Sanitario666: Wow, shocking. ToutSuite: These words I speak do not reflect the arrogance of a young strong-headed woman, but belong to a line of great progressive thought, a history in which the founders of this institution play an important part. ToutSuite: She belongs to a line of great thought. Sanitario666: If I was her mother, I'd cry when I heard it too. ToutSuite: Every commenter loves her ToutSuite: Jean, I read the NYT's article about your speech in the wee hours of the morning today, and posted a link to it on my blog right away. ToutSuite: this guy's all about action ToutSuite: no hesitation, he just links to that shit ToutSuite: damn the torpedos Sanitario666: He knows a good link when he sees it. ToutSuite: haha one guy just quotes Jack Nicholson's speech from A Few Good Men, then writes: ToutSuite: Don't believe it? Put down your Apple iTunes, and pick up a history book. ToutSuite: the quote is full of references to "Santiago" and "Lt. Weinburg" Sanitario666: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jean-rohe/why-i-spoke-up_b_21358.html?p=7#comments ToutSuite: a little more than halfway down, it starts with "Jean, Jean, Jean," by timn. Sanitario666: I guess he means uninstall iTunes. And pick up the adaptation of A Few Good Men. In book form. ToutSuite: the quote mentions picking up a weapon, so there's a lot of picking up to do ToutSuite: which I guess could be a history book or DVD Sanitario666: YEah, or get armed with knowledge. By, say, reading blogs. ToutSuite: brave bloggers, linking Sanitario666: I took McCain's arm. "I'm sorry, man," I told him, "I just had to do it." He mumbled something about it being alright, but I think he probably would've rather not had me there. ToutSuite: yeah, she really showed him Sanitario666: He was almost in tears probably. ToutSuite: MY CROWN: SOILED Sanitario666: He didn't expect crown issues at the New School, whatever that is, but then Jean Rohe came along. Sanitario666: Fucking everything --------> UP ToutSuite: speaking truth to his power Sanitario666: Right at his fucking power. Which might be in his crotch, I don't know. ToutSuite: it sure isn't his arms Sanitario666: When I talk to power, I use fibs, so I'm no expert. ToutSuite: I tell the emperor his clothes look great Sanitario666: I'm like "Hey officer, I thought this was a 60 zone" ToutSuite: yeah, "The check is in the mail!" is a favorite of mine Sanitario666: "You want that ASAP? No problem" Sanitario666: I patronize power a lot. ToutSuite: I secretly laugh about it ToutSuite: but not to its face
