TWIN SNAKES -- Important stuff from me in this post.

The main reason i haven't been able to pick up the Gamecube remake (aside from the OUTRAGEOUS and unaffordable over $20 price tag) is mostly because i still remember the preview movies. Every (single fucking) cutscene had SLO MOTION BACKFLIPPING no matter how much it wasn't needed. i can understand wanting to make an exciting action scene, but people don't do that many backflips when being shot at, or in response to a question that wasn't even about backflipping. And i can't even blame japanese wAckYness, it was developed by the canadians. i bet an american made version would probOH WAIT SPLINTER CELL nm
No, you can go ahead and blame the Japanese again for Twin Snakes. In fact I'll give you one name specifically: Hideo Kojima. Though "co-developed" by Silicon Knights, the Canadians were just doing the porting, acting as Korean animation house to Konami's direction. In fact Hideo specifically went out of his way to make the Twin Snakes cutscenes as crazy as possible, hiring Ryuhei Kitamura, Japan's worst director, who's claim to fame is Versus, the worst movie ever. Kitamura's only task was to revamp the cutscenes in his style, so 700 pages of storyboard later, he had his fingerprints all over the game. Having not played it msyelf, I rely on IGN to tell me about it:
...these cutscenes are just ridiculous. I understand that Metal Gear isn't a dead serious game, but these cutscenes go beyond over the top and end up being laughable. Especially when compared to the amazing Hollywood style Mr. Kojima employs in his cutscenes. In this game, Snake is a master acrobat capable of all kinds of aerial gymnastics and bullet-time effects. He flips off of missles, dodges swords and bullets, and takes a tank shell to the chest. All in a days work, I guess. This over the top direction is more distracting than anything else and while in some cases it's cool (Snake encountering Meryl) most of the time it's cheesy (Snake break dancing on the jeep machine gun).
...that paragraph is also a good review of Versus.
