Quit recommending Tactics Ogre all the time and making extra work for me as I try to save the poor soul from buying it. I cant find the thread where I made a detailed outline on why it sucks, so here's a short recap. -Gay turn order This is what absolutely killed it. Characters do not act based on speed or initiative. Instead each side takes turns and every character on that side gets to move or attack in that turn, then the other person gets to move and attack with everyone, repeat. Not only is this gay, but it makes it so no matter how well you position your guys, you will probably end up losing one or two of them since the entire other team can gang up on them in one turn. Gay -Harsh death In the TO games, a character dies the instant they hit zero hit points, no getting 3 rounds to revive them. You cannot revive characters until late in the game. Once the guy hits zero hit points, he's GONE. They also suffer from the same aspect of FF:Tactics where you absolutely CANNOT afford to lose any of your developed characters, as new recruits will be worthless level 1 dinks. Couple this with the fact that since the entire enemy team can go at once every turn, you CANNOT protect your character no matter how well you position him, he'll just get ganged up on by 4 or more guys and killed in a single turn before you even get to go. -The Story? Eh, no clue. I couldn't stick long enough with the frustratingly shitty combat to get that far in it. So hell for all I know this could be one of those RPG's that starts to "shine" 5+ hours into it. So if you feel like taking that gamble be my guest. I also didnt play long enough to determine if it uses the PSX Tactic Ogre's gay levelling system where someone is twice as powerful as a character one level lower, and the only way to gain experience is to hit or kill a character of equal or higher level. Final Verdict: Just wait until Final Fantasy Tactics Advance comes out in another month or two. My friend just started the japanese ROM and so far the verdict is good. Apparently the first tutorial battle takes place with your characters as children having a snowball fight during recess. Neato
