I'm dying non-stop but it's just because I'm completely sloppy.
Iron Keep is a great example, one enemy type, I hit it 3 times it dies. The only 'rewarding' part is that it's easy to farm souls there. I miss a jump lose soul and just want to rush back to be done with it then I die again. Maybe some really great zone after Iron Keep opens up to make up for yet ANOTHER suit of armor enemy, but I doubt it. It just is lacking an essential something. I really have trouble explaining why Blighttown was dreadful and The Gutter is somewhere below an actual real world gutter as far as enjoyment. Is it the lack of multiple enemies? Is it the sense of confusion created by what are ultimately the same linear levels just stacked on top of one another haphazardly? Or is it just that I know I have nothing to fear from this game? Even going back to Blighttown in NG+ where there really isn't any danger feels more tense than most of DS2. I can't quite put my finger on it. It's almost like I know the game isn't going to be trying very hard to get me, so I see the exploding zombies thrown in The Gutter and go "Oh there's the difficulty" and just blindly work my way through with a map. Dark Souls 1 did pull similar shit in Tomb of Giants, so maybe I'm just being overly hard on the game. Granted PVP has been really fun and hopefully the game comes into it's own on NG+ or something like that.
