They promised the U.S. as the last faction to be added, but it's not playable in the Open-Ended World Domination mode. Instead you get a shitty mini-campaign in 1788 that culminates in you having to occupy 22 territories in America including Louisiana, Texas, and New Mexico, and hold them until 1810. Also you're locked out from sending your fleets/expeditionary forces to Europe or India. Any fictional Harry Turtledove-esque fantasies you might have held about having the United States make a landing at York and proceed to annex the United Kingdom as the 14th state should just go right the fuck out the window.
Seriously, what the hell? Don't give me that balance issues bullshit, would it have been that hard to start out the United States in Virginia in 1700 and have them slowly expand outward?
Additionally the grand campaign itself only runs to roughly 1800 or so, JUST WHEN THINGS ARE STARTING TO GET INTERESTING. I wanted to go tear-assing across Europe in a Napoleon hat while playing the French. Guess I'll have to wait for the inevitable expansion Empire: Total War - French Revolution for that. |
