Random thoughts during the rebuilding by Fussbett 03/06/2009, 8:53am PST
In my defense, SFIV saves after you leave every single menu, so I think I hit BACK to get out of an option screen and then instinctively toe'd the Xbox power button without considering the damage I was doing...

Losing that 20+ hours of play really really hurt. I went from SFIV frenzy to mildly enjoying it because of the re-treading. Anytime the game awards me with anything I say PSH, I ALREADY HAD THAT 20 HOURS AGO. Worse, I lost my 200 match 65% win ratio and because now I'm getting all creative and experimental in my restlessness, I'm down to 50%. I should probably sit down and log 100 wins with Sagat or something before branching out again.

Branching out. I seem to believe that Sakura could grow to be my number 1 character, and I keep using her and losing with her in ranked matches. I'm drawn to her because she can get creative with charged fireballs, she's got the triple hammers against crouching blockers, and her Super and Ultra strikes LOW twice, which a lot of people forget about. But in practice I lose. One problem is that I instinctively throw out dragon punches in pressure moments, but cannot reconcile Sakura's more horizontal flightpath with the vertical dragon punch I expect to come out from my reptile brain. I should basically remove her dragon punch as an anti-air move, but that's a tough habit to break.

C. Viper turned out to be a much more fun than I expected but I could never break into into my regular rotation with those absolutely counter-intuitive moves. Her "Thunder Knuckle", which lunges FORWARD or UP-AND-FORWARD is called with the REVERSE FIREBALL motion. Why? If you perform the dragon punch controller motion, well she punches DOWN, of course. Her moves are fucking BACKWARDS. That's like making a new charge character and giving them moves where you "hold forward and then press back" to throw a projectile. I mean come on!
