I don't see it affecting my life directly because my job is recession-proof, I didn't buy a home during the bubble, and I don't have any debt. I'm preparing to buy a house sometime soon so maybe I'll get to capitalize on other's mistakes? I do know a few people that have lost their jobs, and a few people who've lost a huge chunk of their retirement savings, but even they are getting by with only a little belt-tightening.
Then again, I have no idea how anything works and it SEEMS like we are taking a huge gamble as a country (racking up ridiculous debt in order to skate through just until we get back on our feet, man) so if that gamble fails then I have no frame of reference for how bad life may become. I would set the basement at Mexico-style living conditions. |
