When I'm not listening to "Ping Island / Lightning Strike Rescue Op" (which is almost never), I repeat these over and over:
"The Power Is On" by The Go! Team. Black girl jump rope cheers/rapping mixed with blaring trumpets is a good fit for my high-impact lifestyle of fighting and light-rail commuting. Bonus: the album is called Thunder, Lightning, Strike, which makes it easier to think about PI/LSRO when I'm not able to listen to it.
"Leaf House" by Animal Collective. kittykittykittykittykittykitty(x8) MEOW (kitties) MEOW (kitties) MEOW (kit-ties) MEOW MEOW
"The Woodland National Anthem" by The Arcade Fire. If I lived in NYC and had a lot of friends, we'd sit outside on the steps and play this song. Monty and Hokie Mokie would look down at us from the window of their 1 Bedroom loft across the street and smile.
Roulette Dares (This is the Haunt) by Mars Volta. I'd go back in time eleven months and be accepted into a society where everyone was currently and acceptably enjoying this.
"Pull Out" by Death From Above 1979. This song would power my time machine. A song about pulling out (after pushing in). Honorable Mention (because "Pull Out" is only 1:50 long): "Black History Month", the official white person's song for Black History Month.
"Run Through" by My Morning Jacket. For city dwellers who fear cowboys.
"Du E For Fin For Mig" by Dungen. Sing along in Swedish! 8:28.
"Cabin Essence" by Brian Wilson. I've made a concerted effort to like Smile, but so far this is the only track that I give any play time.
"Will You Smile Again" by Trail of Dead. Seriously, and a great ToD-style intro leads into it.
"Safe" by m83. An incomparable finale of distant fireworks.
