Complaining about remakes is very tired, especially before you see the film and complain on OUTRAGED FAN PRINCIPLE. Take my dismay over Dawn of the Dead, which turned out very well, or my tears about Nicholas Cage's remake of The Wickerman, a movie that never even surfaced. I blame that rumour on someone mishearing that in fact Cage was to star in The Weatherman.
In 2005 the kids love pimps and gangstas. Cops? Very low on the list. Cops always try to keep the pimps down. So in the modern version of Assault on Precinct 13 we have the lone cop defending Lawrence Fishburn, dapper gang leader against an onslaught of crooked cops, not waves upon waves of LA's largest gang. Killing a gang member in a modern movie will get your film booed rigth out of the theatre.
Anyway, this remake is off on the right foot. First billed: JA RULE. |
