This is up on steam, and I definitely like the mouse and keyboard controls more than the gamepad. The main game is really fucking short, so unless you want to compulsively do the speed trials and come up with awesome ways of shaving seconds off your time by tucking your legs in at the perfect time, just rent it for your 360. There is maybe one sewer level(?), most of the game are office buildings or cityscapes which are bright, colorful, and pretty fun to run through.
The time trial is great after playing the full game. There are a ton of absurd one shot tricks you'll notice immediately, like wall running over railings or step jumping off a pillar to complete a jump. The controls and movement are pretty great too. There are good audio cues as to when you're supposed to jump and after doing a given jump a few times you'll have it down. Though you can easily just look at your fucking feet to time your jump, since after you press space you're going to be going over a giant gap.
For some reason there are big ass black bars which get smaller when you change the resolution and really can't get turned off. The game is so visually striking that it doesn't bother you, and it's so fucking bright that they might be there so you don't burn out your corneas. I'd really like to see some custom maps, silly shit like a speed run skipping though yards, or a level from Sands of Time, but it's EA, so no. Also I guess Steam broke a bunch of games saying you're playing in a desperate nerdy last ditch effort to let people know you're playing Mass Effect(WHY?), instead of just rolling back the thing that broke everything for the sake of Mass Effect they're just going to leave it and fix the other stuff later. |
