I hate Neil Young. I hate Wilco.
I didn't care for the Wilco record at all, the older one of theirs I'd heard wasn't great either. Neil Young's Harvest doesn't sound like his other records at all, though it's such a standard I figure you know all about it already.
But: have you ever seen Joe Versus The Volcano? It's the only tolerable Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan movie, a bit surreal, Tom gets sacrificed to the volcano god, etc. Well there's one scene in the beginning where a newly rich Tom Hanks is standing outside a hotel looking lonely and the song "Blue Moon" is playing.
I think that might be one of the few romantic comedies I liked enough to watch a second time. Most of them are sitcom-level inane, but I was around the early age where symbolism is on your radar and I liked the style choices the director makes - right up until they get to the island it's a good movie, then it becomes Krippendorf's Tribe.
That song is an old country standard, sung by a very very young Elvis Presley.
Who? In my History of Music, Elvis is the page intentionally left blank. It's not the idol worship he inspires, it's the stylized idol worship, subconciously I've decided somehow nothing good could inspire rhinestone and sequin jackets and velvet paintings. It's as bad as those transvestite lounge acts that dress up like Liza Minelli.
Though I almost never take solace in seeing aryan children get beat, no matter how prodigal.
I had it coming, I was born a foul-mouthed punk and the cause of it should've known better than to try to beat it out of me. I always wondered about the aryan thing, though: sure I'm a skinny white boy with eyes bluer than the forum background here, but what's critical to whether or not you're aryan? The irish that was once part-norse with part-welsh that was once part-Norman, the lithuanian mixed in with the different lines of celtic ancestry? Hitler's Aryans were descended from the Hellenes, right? That pretty much makes all Europeans Aryans to some degree or another, I mean those Hellenes became the Greeks and Romans of the classical age, then each wave of the same people got a different name, but were all pouring in from the same part of central asia? I guess I don't get the distinction at all.
