I was at the (fairly shitty) Broncos-Bills game yesterday. My Mom won four tickets to the Budweiser Champions Club level suite, so she and I and my brothers went. It was awesome. Karl Mecklenburg was there, Lelo Lang, Steve Sewell, Mark Jackson, David Treadwell, and I think Louis Wright but I didn't see him. And a bunch of others I wasn't familiar with. Also: FREE FOOD. There was a chef there making Beef Au Poivre, and it was excellent. Free beer, free brats, free nachos.
Treadwell hosted a Trivia game at halftime that had a few tough questions mixed in with really easy ones. His assistant was totally hot. Let's see, other random thoughts: it well below freezing but we sat outside so we could yell. It was nice to be able to come in and warm up though.
YAY.
Great memories of Karl Mecklenburg and Steve Sewell! And not great memories of David Treadwell. :(
Karl Mecklenburg was a linebacker who struck fear in the hearts of . . . well okay, but he was really really tough. I remember him lining up with a bloody jaw and bloody hands and just looking scary as shit. I think my favorite play by him was sacking Steve (Fucking) DeBerg, forcing a fumble, then chasing DeBerg and the ball to the endzone where he shoved DeBerg THE FUCK outta the way and fell on it for a TD. YUSSSS.
Steve Sewell was just about my favoritest running back. He was a gadget-play guy, who on a couple occasions threw passes to Elway, including a touchdown. He's also the only guy I know who picks up the first down on 1st and 10 from the 11 but doesn't get the TD. He was very reliable up until the last play of his career when he fumbled during the AFC Championship vs the Bills, after Elway was pulled for sucking and Kubiak was leading us to what would have been the game winning score. Treadwell missed three FGs in that game, and we lost by 3 points. Thanks, Treadwell. The following year, in the preseason, Sewell's ankle exploded in 5 places and he was done. |
