Eastwood fans will love this movie, but I confess that I've never been one of them. The man does have a priceless way with a dry putdown (the winner here has to be "Good day, Puss-cake"), and as an actor, he's a master at riffing on his own cinematic myth. But I can't get past his lead-footed direction and the ponderous Manicheanism of his worldview.
It's sort of like she has no business even watching movies, let alone reviewing them.

The teacher was a deeply closeted Irishman who kept trying to talk about the place of the frontier in the creation of American political ideology, but instead made us watch Shane, Pale Horse Pale Rider, and some monstrously misogynistic movie about how women who try to prevent child neglect and abuse are frigid castrating bitches who don't understand how men get along especially if one of the men is, say, 46, and the other is, say, 8.
Anyway, I learned what the cowboy DEAL is all about even if I learned nothing else, so I get to pass judgments on Clint "Quietly Capable" Eastwood than Dana Stevens wouldn't know how to. She should probably watch Steven Seagal movies with me: now there's an action hero whose appetite for open praise only begins to approach her own (hence it is completely normal and correct.) |
