The combat engine is good, the environments kick ass, the fire effects and healing animations are all very nice, but there really isn't anything interesting to do once you get tired of blowing up faceless shitheads. (It took me a good while to get tired of this though.)
The story elements, including your character's very tenuous reason for being there in the first place, are completely horrible. You know what I miss about cut-scenes? You could skip them. All the in-engine blah blah mission bullshit is incredibly tedious and incoherent and unskippable and impossible to give a shit about. The entire game is utterly morally vacant, which is fine; but it's also humourless, which is unforgivable.
The only funny thing I can remember in the entire game is when one of my buddies sent me on a mission to steal a big sack of weed so we could get baked. "Finally!", I thought, "a character whose motivations I can identify with!" Naturally, it's a completely identical mission from every other "retrieve X from location Y" mission that you get from every other buddy.
Verdict: Should've got Fallout 3 instead :( |
